Excavate and be Damned?
Excavate and be Damned?
The project will have a circular structure, which aims to challenge progress narratives, and will be divided into four phases each dominated by a particular form – this structure, of course, can be challenged, adapted and changed by the participating practitioners. In order to begin, the phases are characterised as: The Direct Address, The Reflective Sequence, The Reflective Sequence Sited in Time and Place and The Final Direct Address. The Direct Address will consist of four presentations created by the practitioners open to the public to mark the commencement of the project in Spring 2012. All the practitioners will be present on this occasion but there is no obligation for them to make the Address themselves. It is suggested that The Reflective Sequence takes the form of a book to be disseminated by a print on demand system. This part of the project will happen in the early summer of 2012 with all the publications launching at the same time. The next phase, The Reflective Sequence Sited in Time and Place, will take the form of four photo-films to be installed within the Collective’s gallery space on Cockburn Street. This exhibition of the films will be the final and closing exhibition at Cockburn Street before the Collective conclude their 22-year residence and depart for their new site in Edinburgh towards the end of 2012. The final Direct Address will take place on the final day the Collective is open to the public at the Cockburn Street site, having the dual function of a closing celebration for the exhibition and the Gallery.
